My association with Art has been ever since I can remember.I have been drawing and painting since childhood though never got a chance to get a full training and learn techniques when I was growing up.

I remember drawing on walls in my home while other kids used to go and play out. It is not that I didnt go out and played but thing is I have always been a bad player in any outdoor sport and most of the time it was embarrassing when I couldn’t perform like others. I have been a very shy and introvert since starting and I guess all of these made me more inclined towards art among other reasons.

No doubt my family has been supportive and everyone knew of my inclination but once when after reading something interesting about art and artists I said to my father “I will become an artist” There was a disapproval from him. It is quite under-stable why he didnt want me to pursue art. Every parents wants their child to be successful, earn good money and live a happy life. And when it comes to Art there is a general perception that Artists (from any field) are not able to earn good and live a happy life. Our society is so narrow minded that parents feel only white collar jobs can be a good career option for their child to become successful and live a happy life. It is this false perception that has saturated our society with engineers and other professional degree holders most of whom are either not fit to be recruited or even if they are fit they find it difficult to get a good job due to over abundance of talent.

Recently there was an article published in TOI by Ravi Venkatesan which got a lot of attention. The article says “India’s IT party is over. It is time to reinvent and be creative else we have to suffer”. I totally agree with the author’s view. We cant just go on any further unless we start being creative. Technology has its limitation and jobs based on this will come to saturation; it is only creativity that has wings to fly to undiscovered land of opportunity and if we need to go there everyone should start being creative and encourage it so that future generation can survive.

I would like to end today’s blog with the quote by Friedrich Nietzsche

The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die.

I have a lot to talk while I take you through my life’s journey as an artist so I will continue tomorrow from same point where I am stopping now.

Do not forget to come back tomorrow and read the continuation. And yes do share your views. It is always great to have a discussion.
